Dear SBS Parents,
This Friday is our annual WALK-A-THON and fun fair. The day will be full of joy as our students in Pre-K through 8th grade walk to support our school. All students will receive a free pizza lunch and water bottle courtesy of our Home and School. I am so grateful to all of our Home and School Board, most especially Mrs. Jen Scamuffa, President; Mrs. Jackie McDevitt, Vice President; Mrs. Laura Elly, Secretary; and Ms. Bridget Moran and Mrs. Danielle Kelly, Treasurers. Their tireless efforts throughout the year have benefited both our students and staff.

A BIG Thank You to all of the sponsors that have shown support by sending their donations thus far. We are inching closer to our $10,000 goal and having a visit from the ice cream truck on Wednesday, June 1st.
We are in need of a few volunteers to help keep our walkers SAFE and make our walk SUCCESSFUL. Please check out our Sign Up Genius and consider volunteering your time by clicking here.
Thank you again for your support. All funds raised from the Walk-A-Thon directly benefit the students and faculty of St Bernadette School!
NO SCHOOL ON MONDAY, MAY 23RD
Archbishop Nelson Perez celebrated Mass on Thursday, May 5th and invited all teachers and students to attend via Zoom. At the end of the Mass, he gifted the teachers and students with a holiday, to be used before the end of the school year. For this reason, there will be NO SCHOOL on Monday, May 23rd. Mike Thornton will reimburse anyone who purchased lunch through our hot lunch program. Anyone who paid for CARES for the 23rd will be reimbursed or credited for next year. Please let Mrs. Mascitelli know your preference. You may also add a day to your CARES schedule between now and the end of school.
UPDATE ON PRETZEL ORDERS
Our pretzel vendor, Bernie's Pretzels, has always been reliable and convenient.. These past two weeks we have had a few issues due to their staff shortages and an oven breaking. On Thursday, May 12th, we were shorted pretzels which resulted in our students in 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th grades not receiving their pretzels. The wonderful Mrs. Booth made goodie bags for these students which were distributed to these children on Friday. I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience to your children. I have spoken to Bernie’s and they have assured me that the problem is resolved. I am ready to move to another vendor if things are not rectified this week.
BERNIE'S BUCKS
Students who sold Bernie Bucks lottery tickets will be issued NUT Passes on Wednesday, May 19th. The NUT pass may be used on Tuesday, May 24th or Wednesday, May 25th.
BAND CONCERT
The Spring Concert is on Tuesday, May 24 at 7:00pm in O'Brien Hall. The student dress for the concert is Sunday best. Looking forward to a wonderful evening of entertainment from our talented students under the direction of Mr. Keith Miller.
8TH GRADE CAR WASH – RESCHEDULED
Is your car feeling neglected? This year’s Class of 2022 can take care of that and make your car sparkling clean! Friendly service guaranteed! The car wash will take place on Saturday, May 21st, in the St. Bernadette School parking lot from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Please come out and support our 8th grade class! THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT!
The zoo is coming to St. Bernadette School! On Tuesday, May 24th and Wednesday, May 25th, representatives from the Elmwood Park Zoo will be here with some critters that our students in PreK through 5th grades will have the opportunity to enjoy. Students will be grouped according to age and a lesson will be presented by trained zoo employees. It promises to be both fun and educational.
ST. BERNADETTE OF LOURDES PARISH CELEBRATES 75 YEARS
Please save the date for a special celebration on Sunday, May 22nd. All are invited to our 75th Anniversary Mass at 11:00 AM followed by a procession to the grotto and a reception with parish memorabilia on display! We are extending a special request to our Sacrament Families and asking the Confirmation students and First Communion students to wear your Sacrament Robes, Dresses, or Suits to the Anniversary Mass! Please contact Mrs. Marykate Murphy (mmurphy@stbl.org) with any questions. We are looking forward to celebrating 75 years of our wonderful parish!
Dear God,
Thank you for never leaving us alone.
Thank you that even in the midst of all the uncertainty of our lives
And the world right now, that you are still God.
Help us Lord, as we are dealing with so many different situations in our lives,
Help our hearts and minds stay focused on you and what is truly important: faith and family.
Help us to remember that our hope and trust is always in you.
Thank you that you are our God, that you are our salvation
And that you will always provide a way for us.
Amen.
Let us continue to pray for one another.
Peace,
Joanne Montie
