Welcome to
Mrs. Piel's Class!
Thank you for choosing St. Bernadette School as your child's first educational experience!
Dear Families,
With April showers come beautiful May flowers!
Theme: We are so excited to see the weather get warmer, and the season begin to change. With spring in the air, our theme this month is “Animals.” During the next few weeks, we will be thinking, reading, and talking about many different animals. The variety and diversity of animals in our world is amazing! Animals come in many sizes, colors, and shapes. Each has unique characteristics and can be found in its own special habitat. We will organize our study around the places a young child would see these animals- zoo, farm, and ocean. This month is going to be hands on FUN!
Week 2: Farm Animals
Fine Motor - Create and describe set combinations
Gross Motor - Clap, jump, and tap number quantities
Math - Create number families, match numerals to quantities
Unite: "Old MacDonald Had a Farm?"
Calm: Farm Task
Commit: Classroom Jobs
Story time: Grandpa's Farm & Little Red Hen
Food From Farms
As you are shopping with your child in the grocery store, point out farm produce and dairy items. Comment that these foods come from farms. Remind children that hens lay eggs and dairy cows produce milk.
Movement:
Dance to “Funky Chicken” and “New Chicken Dance” / Roll plastic eggs
MATH at HOME
Model simple subtraction problems for your child throughout the day:
• Look. There are four cupcakes on the plate. If I give one to you and one to Tom, there are two cupcakes left.
• I see three hats on the rack. If Daddy puts on one, there will be two left.
• Brutus has two bones in his dish
Upcoming events & reminders:
Our classrooms have received some wonderful items from our class Amazon wish list. Thank you! The little ones have enjoyed using the items and activities!
As we prepare for an exciting year ahead, I wanted to let you know that we have created an Amazon wish list for our classroom. This list includes items that will help us create a warm, engaging, and enriching environment for the children.
If you would like to contribute, you are welcome to purchase something from the list. Of course, this is entirely optional, and there is no pressure to do so. Your support and involvement are what truly make our classroom a special place!
