Emergency Closing/ Early Dismissal/ Weather Related Closings
Emergency School Closings and Delays
St. Bernadette School's first priority is the safety of our students and staff. Emergency situations and winter weather that impact road and driving conditions may cause changes in the school day schedule. As a result, the school day might be adjusted to a 2-hour delay, an early dismissal, a school closing or a virtual learning day. Our goal is to make information available to families about the change in the school day schedule as soon as possible. We encourage families to have a plan in place for school opening delays, school closings, before- and after-school activity cancellations and emergency school dismissal situations.
We communicate school closing and delay decisions in the following ways
Option C generated text, phone call, email is used to send out mass communications to all parents/guardians using contact information from the Option C portal. IMPORTANT: Parents/Guardians are responsible for keeping their contact information (i.e. email, phone number) up-to-date and notify the school of any changes throughout the school year.
St. Bernadette School social media tools and the School Website, are used to post the message.
Emergency School Schedule Changes
School Closed
School is closed for the day. All before and after school activities are cancelled, including C.A.R.E.S.
If a decision to close schools is made on the morning of the inclement weather event, it will be made by 6:00am.
2-Hour Delay
In the case of a 2-hour delay school begins 2 hours later than usual, 10:00am for students in Kindergarten through grade 8. 10:30am for PreK 3 and PreK 4 students. There is no morning C.A.R.E.S. Students in grades Kindergarten through grade 8 may begin arriving at school starting at 9:45am.
Bus pick-up schedules are also 2 hours later than usual. All before school activities are cancelled. School for students in grades Kindergarten through Grade 8 dismiss at the usual time unless otherwise indicated. Half day PreK students dismiss at noon.
Early Dismissal
If a weather event occurs while the students are in school and is serious enough to warrant an early dismissal, parents will be notified using Option C.
Virtual Learning Day
If a Virtual Learning Day is called due to inclement weather, parents will be notified using Option C and homeroom teachers will notify parents regarding the schedule of the day.
