Dear St. Bernadette of Lourdes Parish and School Community, 
 
I would like to take this opportunity to update you on the status of the search for a new principal here at St. Bernadette.  The search committee consists of educational leaders, teachers, parishioners and parents. Kevin Kelly is chairing the committee which also includes the following:
 
Bernadette Dougherty, Assistant Superintendent of Schools for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia
Molly Walsh, St. Bernadette Faculty
Kathy Pedano, St. Bernadette Faculty and parent
Dominic Mirenda, Seminarian
Fran McElhenney, former Elementary School Administrator 
Joe McPeak, Chairperson of the School Advisory Board
Dean Kenefick, CYO Board and parent
MaryKate Murphy, Director of Religious Education and parent
 
We have worked with the staff at the Office of Catholic Education at the Archdiocese of Philadelphia to post the position on multiple platforms including the career site at the Archdiocese, Indeed.com, and CatholicJobs.com.  It has also been shared with multiple partners in our network, including the Foundation for Catholic Education and the community of local colleges and universities, who have shared the opportunities with their networks.  The committee has been firm that we select a candidate who not only fills the basic requirements but is also a very good fit for our community with excellent skills in leadership, instruction, and compassion who is also on fire with our Catholic faith
 
So, while we are continuing to actively search for a permanent principal, we have appointed an interim principal for the school year until we are able to identify the right long term candidate.  I am excited to announce that Mrs. Fran McElhenney will be our Interim Principal for the 2024 -2025 School Year.  Mrs. McElhenney is a parishioner who has 17 years of teaching experience and 11 years of administrative experience as Vice Principal at Drexel Hill Middle School.  As a parishioner she is already on our School Advisory Board and has been a part of our school as a substitute teacher.   Her character and resume are so impressive I asked her to be a part of the search committee to find a new Principal.  We sincerely thank Mrs. McElhenney for taking on the leadership of our School Community. 
 
Mrs. Montie has continued in the role as Principal this summer and has put everything in place for the upcoming school year.  This means that all books, materials and plans are set for the year and the school is fully staffed for the 2024-2025 year.  I am deeply grateful to Mrs. Montie for staying with us through the summer.
 
Please know that the work of the Principal Search Committee will continue until the right candidate is identified.  I ask you to continue to pray for those who are considering this position as leading any school is difficult but very, very rewarding.  Thank you for your patience and I look forward to seeing you on Sunday!
