Alumni Spotlight

Ryan Sheridan, Class of 2007

Ryan Sheridan began his educational journey at St. Bernadette Preschool back in 1996. He has grown into an extremely hard-working, well-rounded young man, who recognizes the importance of service and giving back to his community. In addition to a stellar academic career at St. Bernadette, Ryan participated in a wide variety of activities, including Student Council, Service Club, football, basketball, and baseball.

Upon graduating from St. Bernadette School, Ryan accepted a scholarship to Malvern Preparatory School, where he is currently a senior. Ryan maintains a rigorous academic schedule, including Advanced Placement courses in Calculus, Physics, Economics, English, Statistics, and Latin. He is also active in baseball, peer counseling, National Honor Society, and Mathletes at Malvern. In our St. Bernadette community, he is involved in CYO basketball, church lecturing, and service team. In addition, he participates on the Youth Advisory Council for the Archdiocese. He is planning to pursue Engineering in college and has been accepted thus far to Penn State and Villanova University's Honors Program.

Ryan's older brother Andrew graduated from St. Bernadette in 2005, and younger brother Kevin graduated in 2010. Ryan's other younger siblings are just beginning their St. Bernadette educational experience. Megan is currently in Kindergarten, Bridget is in 4-year-old Preschool, and Luke attends Mothers Morning Out.

Ryan's mom Kathy Cleary Sheridan is also a St. Bernadette graduate, class of 1980.

Emily Moran, Class of 2006

Emily Moran attended St. Laurence School before moving to St. Bernadette Parish in 4th grade. She quickly made new friends at St. Bernadette School. She earned academic honors each year, and was actively involved in giving back to the community through her participation in the school's Service Club. She was an altar server and was awarded the Altar Server of the Year Award at graduation. Emily effectively balanced academics with sports, as she played softball in 6th through 8th grade, and also played volleyball and basketball in 8th grade.

Upon graduating in 2006, Emily attended Archbishop Prendergast High School, where her academic and athletic success continued. She earned honors and several academic awards during her years at Prendie. She was also a member of the Respect Life Club, and the Panda Pride Club. Emily made the varsity softball team as a freshman and continued to play all 4 years of high school. During her senior year, Emily was recruited to play goalie for the field hockey team. Despite never having played field hockey, Emily accepted the challenge to play this position for the Pandas. Her hard work and dedication paid off, as for the first time in at least 25 years, Prendie's field hockey team won the Catholic League Championship, and went on to win the District 12 Class AAA championship.

Emily graduated from APHS in 2010, and was awarded both academic and athletic scholarships to attend LaSalle University. She is currently a freshman majoring in Communications, and will play softball for The Explorers in Spring 2011.

Emily's younger siblings currently attend St. Bernadette - Pat '11, Joanie, '14, and Caroline '17.

Ray Toto, Class of 2007

Ray Toto, a 2007 graduate of St. Bernadette, is currently a senior at St. Joseph's Preparatory School. While at St. Bernadette, Ray was an honor student, and a two-sport all-star in basketball and baseball. He was a member of the 2007 varsity basketball team that won the district championship, and made it to the "final four" of the annual Archdiocesan Championship Tournament. At the Prep, he is a member of the National Honor Society, with a 3.9 cumulative GPA. An accomplished baseball player, Ray is a catcher and co-captain of the Prep's varsity squad. A three-year varsity letterman, Ray set the school record for doubles in a season as a sophomore, and won team MVP, Philadelphia First-team All-Catholic, and First-team All-City honors his Junior year. He also represented the Catholic League in the prestigious Carpenter Cup tournament last June.

This past November, Ray signed a National Letter of Intent to play baseball at George Mason University, where he will matriculate as a freshman in the Fall of 2011. While at Mason, Ray is considering studying Sports Management, Marine Biology, or perhaps preparing for a pharmacy degree. He is looking forward to the upcoming Prep season, and will also be playing summer baseball with the 20-and-under Philly Bandits, a regional showcase team coached by David Amaro.

In his spare time, Ray enjoys spending time with many friends, and has been seen recently honing his skating skills for hockey, another sport he enjoys playing. He is also an avid fisherman, and has caught many different species of saltwater fish since he was a toddler. In fact, he and his sister Regina have a pretty healthy competition going for who catches the most and the biggest fish every time they go out. Ray is also volunteering his time at Lankenau Hospital this year doing patient transport as part of his community service.

Kelly McNulty, Class of 2009

Kelly McNulty, an honor student during her years at St. Bernadette School, graduated in 2009 with an academic scholarship to the Academy of Notre Dame de Namur in Villanova. In addition to French and Art, Kelly is currently studying various Advanced Placement courses including Government, Biology, and Honors Pre-Calculus. While managing her challenging academic schedule, Kelly is active in many other activites: She is the starting pitcher for Notre Dame’s softball team and has been involved with field hockey, campus ministry and service clubs. Kelly also finds way to give back to her community, volunteering her spare time coaching younger girls at softball clinics and by helping with various service projects at school. She is also a member of “Chaos”, a softball tournament team that plays in the tri-state area.

Kelly’s mom Kim attributes much of Kelly’s academic success to her educators at St. Bernadette: "There is no doubt that the dedicated teachers at St. Bernadette are responsible for cultivating Kelly’s academic interests through an enthusiastic learning environment."

Kelly’s four younger siblings are all currently attending St. Bernadette School: Katie is in 8th grade, Molly is in 6th grade, Meghan is in 4th grade and brother Tommy is in 1st grade. Kelly’s dad Tom is a 1982 graduate of St. Bernadette.
